Carry on.

Tough year

2018 has certainly been a tough year for many people. I lost my job at the beginning of the year. A friend and a cousin got divorced. Several people my age I know have lost their jobs too and are still looking

My mom’s kidney is still filtering away but is quickly deteriorating. Right now, I’m on a flight to Edmonton to bless one of my younger cousins who is hospitalized and in a coma.

It’s times like this that I can’t help but look back and see just how blessed we really are. In spite of the hardships this year, we are still alive. We are still surrounded by people who care for us very deeply. We have a roof over our head and food on the table.

Earlier this fall, we made our last two payments for the girls braces. If you asked me in 2000 if I could be able to afford braces for a child, let alone two, I would have said, “It’s very hard for me to imagine that.” But we were able to.

And if you asked me in 2000 if I would be working in a great government job in 2018, I would have said, “I don’t know about that.”

There have been some lonely and some frustrating times this year, but Heavenly Father has been quite merciful to me by helping me through it all. And for that I am truly grateful.

I’m thinking about my cousin and what he must have been going through to be where he is now. I can only hope that he chooses to live and to make the best of the wonderful future he has waiting for him. He has such a wonderful talent to make people smile – to embrace life, to live it well.

But it all depends on his choice (a lot rests on that) , and also the will of our Father in Heaven. I hope that when the blessing is given that it will inspire, comfort and encourage him to choose life and to carry on. Yes life is difficult. And yes, it can be too hard to bear at times. But he is not alone. He has us his family, and his friends and Heavenly Father. We just need to hold on to them and the bits of joy we have from to time to time to sustain us.

Dar Dar, hold fast. Be strong. You are more loved than you realize.
