We’re canceling our cable in about a month, so we unhooked the old computer from the TV since we wouldn’t need MythTV anymore. So, I decided to get back into the Linux saddle and go with Ubuntu 8.04. Gentoo was a lot of fun and forced me to get into the innards of bootstrapping, custom kernel updates etc. But I went with Ubuntu because I don’t have enough time to do that anymore.
Desktop linux variants have certainly improved since I last had Gentoo and later Debian. Gnome is a lot more polished than before, but it doesn’t seem to have that h@x0rz feel that KDE had before. Anyway, I like what I see, in spite of the fact that my right speaker isn’t working for some reason. Don’t have a second set to confirm that it’s a problem with the speakers or not. We’ll find out soon.
